Celebrated Ghanaian journalist, Christopher Opoku who died on May 10, 2017 will be buried on Saturday, 15th July, 2017 in Kumasi – and as has been the norm, people have started pouring in their tributes.
Poet Kwame Agyemang Berko has written a poem titled ‘The Beautiful Chris_tian Man’ to celebrate the deceased media mogul.
The Beautiful Chris_tian Man
I only knew the man from afar,
Spat a prayer when I first saw the pictures,
Cursed why he had been away and so far,
And didn’t want us worrying about his raptures.
He was always due in heaven
But not for a couple more decades and some days.
He was due all days in a week totaling seven,
For he was an anchor filled with mirth and bright rays.
I am not surprised that his pity is this loud.
That the numb is really loud,
Hence those who wail have avowed,
that he is up in heaven beyond this cloud.
But It is the beauty of his smile,
Which stretches by a mile,
That makes us bow our heads,
To shelve our ills and burst the dam of our sheds.
It is that beautiful smile
That widened freely from ear to ear,
Flowed genuinely like a Nile,
To whet our sorrows like he is still here.
But now, he is late.
No, we are late.
Yes, so shall miss out on his smile,
For death hath lured ailment with its wile.
The beautiful Chris man passed with distinction
And unto glory, but virtual extinction.
His soul has curtsied and is at rest.
left the hell his body bore and is in heaven as guest.
The man was beautiful.
His blessings upon us was plentiful.
His legacy, dutiful.
But it is the absence of his beauty that tags us pitiful.
