MP promises to co-operate with DCE

Dambai, April 22, GNA - Mr Wisdom Gidisu, MP for Krachi East on Thursday, pledged to collaborate with the President's nominee for the post of District Chief Executive for the Krachi East District to ensure accelerated development.

"This is not the time to heckle but time to forge common front against poverty, underdevelopment, deprivation and bring some dignity to the suffering masses in the community," he said.

Mr Gidisu who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dambai said, it was his desire to stem the prevailing hardship that was afflicting the people in the area to ensure prosperity and development but added that, "things will take time to materialise". He urged the people to cooperate with the government and the district assembly for a firm socio-economic foundation to be laid. The MP said the new district carved out of the Krachi District, now Krachi West was a typical deprived area, which lacked many infrastructure including roads.

He said the over 80,000 population had to contend with only two community health centres at Tokoranu and Dormabin. Mr Gidisu said as a result of lack of potable water, animals and human beings struggled for water from ponds, rivers, dams as well as the Volta Lake.

This had resulted in the high prevalence of water borne diseases such as guinea worm and typhoid fever, Mr Gidisu said. He said only few teachers accepted posting to the area as a result of poor school infrastructure and bad residential accommodation. He said the youth who could not contend with the deplorable situation had left for the urban areas. 22 April 05
