Ghana Pentecostal Council calls for massive voter turn

Accra, Dec. 6, GNA - The Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC) has called on the electorate to turn out in their numbers on Tuesday, to vote massively for the presidential and parliamentary candidates of their choice.

The Council also urged Ghanaians to have confidence in the measures put in place by the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders in Election 2004 to collate the election results.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Reverend Ekow Badu Wood, General Secretary of the GPC on Monday.

The statement said the ballot box would reflect the decision of the people and hence the need for losers in the General Election to accept defeat graciously.

"Winners, on the other hand should be magnanimous and remember that by winning the vote of the people they now represent not just members of their party but the whole constituency.

"Democracy flourishes in the atmosphere of tolerance, self-control and respect for the opinion of others. We are thankful to God that Ghanaians are maturing in the democratic process," the statement said. The Council expressed the hope that the voting process would lead to a peaceful Ghana with equal and unlimited opportunities for growth and development for all citizens.

The statement commended all churches and religious organisations for praying hard for peaceful elections.
