PUSAG condemns killing of Mahama Adams

The Private Universities’ Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG), has condemned the acid attack on Mr Mahama Adams, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bolgatanga, leading to his death.

The student group described the attack as ‘inhuman and barbaric,’ and called on the law enforcement agencies to properly investigate the matter until all the perpetrators were made to face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Raphael Apetorgbor, the Media Relations Officer of PUSAG, speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, extended condolences to the family of the deceased, and prayed to God to grant the family and friends the strength to bear the loss.

He urged people of the Upper East Region to remain united in the face of the heinous crime, and co-operate with the police in their investigations to bring the perpetrators to book.

“Nonetheless, we call on the police to investigate the crime with a view to bringing the culprits to justice. We as well entreat the people in the region to remain calm and law-abiding.” Mr Apetorgbor added.

The Media Relations Officer said: “We condemn the dastardly act, which was reported to have been executed without provocation as well as sympathise with the family of the deceased and pray to God to give them the fortitude to bear the irredeemable loss.

“However, we reiterate our position that violence is not an alternative to peace, and the earlier this is realized, the better for all Ghanaians. Even if the victim has committed any crime, we do not see how unlawfully attacking him would resolve whatever may have informed the heinous act.”

Mr Apetorgbor called on politicians, opinion leaders and youth leaders to lead with messages to prevent pain and bereavement.

The late Mahama Adams was returning from his construction site on Wednesday night when two men attacked him in his car and poured acid on him.

He later died on Thursday from the injuries at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
