Katakyie to Contest Bekwai NPP Parliamentary Primaries

Preamble:

Since the inception of the 4th Republic in 1992, four (4) distinguished personalities have represented the people of Bekwai Constituency. Whilst the first two Members of Parliament (MPs) spent one term (4 years) each in Parliament, the last two MPs would be sharing 16 years (8 years each) by January 2017. Incidentally, Bekwai, the Municipal Capital has produced all the four (4) MPs and Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) even though the Constituency is made up of 116 towns and villages. This indicates that the human resource expertise in the Constituency, especially those in the peripheral villages, has not been fully utilized.

Traditionally, Bekwai is ahead of Juaben, Mampong, Konongo, and Ejisu, if the origin of Asantes were to be traced, but in terms of socio-economic development, Bekwai, together with the surrounding towns and villages, seriously lags behind. Even though the previous managers did their best to uplift the image of Bekwai Constituency, educational standard has not seen much improvement and job opportunities are almost negligible. Occupationally, the constituents are basically farmers, but lack of food processing companies in the Constituency has not helped in revenue generation for both farmers and the Municipal Assembly. This has led to high level of poverty among the indigenes.

It's in the light of the above that the constituents are currently yearning for a representative who could use his/her expertise to champion their cause. Therefore, the call by Paramount Chiefs, Queen-mothers, the unemployed, students, farmers, traders, women, and the youth for Katakyie to come and save the situation cannot be said to at the wrong time.

Who is Katakyie?

Mr. Kingsley Opoku Agyemang, popularly known as Katakyie, was born on May 15, 1971 by Madam Ama Pokuah of Asakyiri and the late Kofi Nti of Abodom. He had his basic education at Asakyiri and Abodom Methodist Prim/Middle Schools, and in 1984, entered Opoku Ware School for his secondary education. He was appointed the Sports Prefect of the school in 1990/91 academic year. With his determination to pursue teaching as a career, Mr. Opoku Agyemang attended Wesley College of Education in 1992, and by 1995, he had graduated as a professional teacher. Having taught at the basic education level for 3 years, Katakyie enrolled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and graduated with BA (Hons) Economics and Geography in 2001.

Katakyie taught Economics at T.I. Ahmadiyya Girls' SHS, Asokore for 3 years and rose to the position of Head of Department of Social Sciences. In 2004, he pursued a postgraduate course (MEd. in Education) at the University of Hull, UK, and stayed there for 9 years. In May 2013, Katakyie relocated to Ghana with the view to imparting the acquired knowledge, skill, and experience into the Ghanaian children, and to help in building a prosperous Ghana. As a result, he was appointed the Registrar of Vibe Pre-University College, Kumasi in 2014 to supervise academic activities of the College.

Political Journey:

Politically, Katakyie has been active since the formation of NPP in 1992. He was a member of the Danquah-Busia Club, as well as Tescon (KNUST). Katakyie was a Polling Agent for the NPP in 1992, 1996, and 2000 respectively. In the UK, Katakyie joined the NPP-UK Branch and became a key member of the Branch's Communication Team. He has written over 100 political articles to defend the cause of the NPP and its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo. Katakyie was among the few NPP members who came to Ghana in April 2012 and November 2012 to register, campaign and vote for the NPP in Election 2012.

During the internal party elections organised by the NPP last year, Katakyie was elected the Coordinator of Dadease Electoral Area in the Bekwai Constituency. In May 2014, Katakyie formed a pressure group, Get Alan Kyerematen Elected (GAKE) to solicit votes for Hon. Alan Kyeremanten to lead the NPP for Election 2016. There is no doubt that Katakyie made a mark in Ghana politics as his Group revolutionized the NPP grassroot during the presidential primaries, a virtue party supporters have vowed to carry onto Election 2016.

Katakyie's Impact

Katakyie's educational and political impact has been greatly felt in the Bekwai Constituency. He has financially assisted many needy, but brilliant students to complete their basic and secondary education. He voluntarily teaches pupils in the basic school, and uses his educational influence to help others gain admission into tertiary institutions. Majority of the youth in the Constituency still benefit from his guidance and counseling services. No wonder the Asakyiri Students' Union (ASU) bestowed on him the Life Patron of ASU. In 2009, Katakyie started his agriculture project and employed a number of people on his cocoa and plantain farms.

Katakyie's Vision:

Katakyie's vision for Bekwai Constituency is simple. He wants to improve the living standards of his people. Katakyie would do this by prioritizing education, agriculture, and social infrastructure. He would unite and mobilize his constituents to embark on more self-help and developmental projects with minimal reliance on the Central government. For, as it stands now, the social and infrastructural development situation in the Bekwai constituency is nothing to write home about. The constituents therefore need a true representative who could champion their cause. Hence, the call by Paramount Chiefs, Queen-mothers, the unemployed, farmers, traders, women, and the youth for Katakyie to come and save the situation. As a listening servant, Katakyie would not turn his back on his people, especially at a time that his services are urgently needed. He is therefore going to use his extensive teaching and managerial experience to make a positive impact on the lives of the people of Bekwai Constituency, especially those in the periphery.

Katakyie's Plea:

It's often said before you can lead, you must first learn to serve. Katakyie is therefore asking the NPP delegates to give him the opportunity to serve them in order to bring the best out of Amansie. To him, Amansie deserves better! Whilst basing his campaign on 3 C's - Confidence, Caring, and Community Service, Katakyie strongly believes that the motto: "Amansie Mpuntuo, 3y3 Y3nyinaa As3de3" could energize not only the NPP delegates in particular, but the entire constituents to vote massively for the educationist, writer, farmer, and communicator in both the parliamentary primary and parliamentary elections.

Katakyie Nie! Amansie Mpuntuo Nie!!

Details of Katakyie's Campaign Activities would soon be made public.

Kukrudu!
