Tweaa DCE gagged

Gabrial Barima, popularly called ‘Tweaa’ DCE, who has been embroiled in several controversial issues, was Wednesday confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ahafo Ano South amid another controversy.

Interestingly, the ‘Tweaa’ DCE was said to have been prevented from making a statement after 97 percent of assembly members voted confirmed him as the DCE of the area.

People that thronged the election venue were surprised when the Tweaa DCE, who was in a hearty mood, could not deliver his acceptance speech.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong reportedly thanked the delegates for the overwhelming endorsement of the ‘Tweaa DCE’ for the second time.

The Minister also charged the assembly members and for that matter people in the district to rally behind the DCE so that together they would transform the area and better their lives in the process.

Party insiders said Gabriel Barima was strategically prevented from addressing the gathering because the party leadership was afraid he could make another controversial statement which may land him in fresh trouble.

According to them, the ‘Tweaa DCE’ normally makes controversial statements in the ruling, so they prevented him from speaking.

Gabriel Barima was previously axed from office after he lost his temper and exhibited gross indiscipline at a public function only to be reinstated by President John Dramani Mahama after the intervention of personalities such as NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who saw nothing wrong with the action which led to his dismissal.

Few days after he was re-appointed by the President, another recorded tape of the outspoken DCE went viral in the media where he was heard bragging about his pedigree in the NDC.

The ‘Tweaa’ DCE boosted on the said tape that he was a senior member of the NDC, adding that Asiedu Nketia, the NDC General Secretary put pressure on the Presidency to reappoint him.

Witnesses at the venue said Hon. Barima commands massive support in the assembly and the district as a whole where he is seen as a development-oriented person.

Scores of people who thronged the venue were therefore not surprised when he garnered 62 out of 65 votes to become DCE for the second time.

The excited crowd mobbed Barima immediately the Electoral Commission (EC) officials declared him winner.

Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yammin, Nana Akwasi, Deputy Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, Ernest Brogya Genfi, the newly elected NDC Youth Organizer in the region and other executives such as Samed Akalilu, Kwame Zu and Hajiya Agyara were present at the event.
