NPP race: Winner must be magnanimous – Afoko

The National Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko has appealed to whoever is elected as flagbearer of the party in Saturday’s presidential primaries to be magnanimous.

He believes, that is the only way the party can ensure unity within it ranks ahead of the 2016 elections.

“We expect the winner to be magnanimous and genuinely reach out to the losers” Afoko stated at a pre-election press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Wednesday.

He said the losers also have responsibility to declare support for the winner in order to ensure harmony in the Dankwa-Busia tradition.

“We call on the unsuccessful candidates and their supporters to fully and unconditionally support the winner”.

Over 140,000 delegates of the NPP will vote on Saturday October 18 to elect one of three candidates.

Two-time flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo is slugging it out with the two leading contenders: former Minister of Trade and Industries Alan Kyerematen and MP Francis Addai Nimoh .
