Akufo-Addo: ‘I don’t fear delegates, I trust them’

Presidential hopeful, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said he trusts all delegates of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, unlike the party’s former General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, who said he distrusted them after he lost his re-election bid.

“I want to disagree with Sir John [Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie]...in my case, I trust delegates," the two-time presidential candidate told delegates in the Northern region Wednesday.

Akufo-Addo is seeking to lead Ghana’s biggest opposition party, for the third consecutive time, into another presidential election in 2016.

He won more than 80 percent of a mini congress held to reduce the number of flagbearer-aspirants from seven to five.

The former foreign affairs Minister – one of the five shortlisted candidates, who will be taking part in the forthcoming October 18 mega congress – is campaigning across the country to win the hearts of delegates.
