Asante-Akim South NDC elects new officers

The Asante-Akim South Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voted to retain Mr Alex Ohemeng as its Chairman.

He polled 301 votes to beat off the fierce challenge by Mr Alexander Gyekye, who garnered 184 votes.

This was at the party’s delegates conference held at Juaso and supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Mrs Alberta Mensah-Bonsu.

Other elected officers included Tei Adamtey, Vice Chairman, Akwasi Amponsah Akosah, Secretary, Madam Zaliatu Ibrahim, Treasurer, Kwaku Adansi, Organizer, Awal Mohammed, Youth Organizer, Ms Christiana Dentaah, Women Organizer, and Kwadwo Amadu Shaibu, Propaganda Secretary.

The newly elected constituency executive would serve a term of four years.

Mr Yaw Obimpeh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, who led a delegation from the party’s regional office to observe the poll, urged the members to maintain a united front.

He expressed optimism that with unity of purpose the NDC would easily win the 2016 general elections.

Mr Obimpeh advised all the contestants to put the elections behind them and focus on winning over more voters to return the party to power.

Mr Degraft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), saluted the delegates for their political maturity and peaceful conduct of the polls.
