Arrest Ken Agyapong over “plot to poison Akufo-Addo” claim

The General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, Bernard Mornah, has called for the immediate arrest of the NPP MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, over his claim that some people in the opposition party are plotting to poison the party’s two-time presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to Mornah, the maverick politician must be compelled by the security agencies to provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.

Agyapong has accused four people, including a former chief of staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani and MP for Nhyaeso, Dr Richard Anane, of “plotting to poison” the former attorney general, who is seeking to run for president for the third consecutive time on the ticket of the NPP.

The allegation comes on the heels of purulent recriminations between party leaders and executives over recent administrative changes effected at the Communication Directorate by General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Chairman Paul Afoko.

Commenting on the development, the PNC General Secretary said the seriousness of the allegation requires the attention of the national security.

“In this country, all you need to do to avoid getting punished for a crime is to cloak yourself in NDC or NPP colours. I think the national security must arrest Kennedy Agyapong over this allegation. He must be made to prove it”, Mornah said on Radio Gold on Saturday.
