Nduom to build community centre for Ekumfi Otuam

The presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has redeemed a promise of building a community centre for the chiefs and people of Ekumfi Otuam in the Mfantseman East constituency of the Central Region.

Last Monday, the PPP flag-bearer cut the sod for the commencement of the project at a well attended gathering at Ekumfi Otuam. The people earmarked a site at the Otuam beach for the project. Otuam is predominantly a fishing community.

Dr. Nduom promised to provide the community centre for the chiefs and people of Otuam when he visited the family of former President Mills to console and empathise with them on the immediate aftermath of the demise of the former Ghanaian president.

The entire Otuam township was thrown into pure joy and ecstasy when Dr. Nduom and his team made up some members of the National and Central Regional executives of the party, stormed the town to cut sod for the commencement of the project.

Dr. Nduom and his entourage had a hectic driving through the Otuam town to the proposed site for the community centre. A predominant fishing community, most fishermen and fisher-folk of the town say they virtually had to abandon one of their biggest catch since the fishing season begun in order to welcome Dr. Nduom and his team to Otuam.

When the snail-paced entourage finally touched base at the proposed site, the sheer joy on the faces of many of the town’s youth bore ample testimony of their endorsement of Dr. Nduom’s gesture. They chanted his name and that of the PPP Awake slogan and swore to vote for the PPP and Dr. Nduom in this year’s election.

In a brief address, Dr. Nduom said he was in Otuam to fulfill an earlier promise and to further share with the Otuam people in their grief over the death of former President Mills who traces his maternal ancestry to the ancient fishing town.

Dr. Nduom was however quick to add “I have not come to Otuam to seek your vote because I am a native or son of the Central Region as some politicians are seeking to do, but to let you know what I have done for the region and what more that I can do for you and indeed other parts of the country.”

“I am a Fante from the Central Region, but I have put jobs in Bawku in the Upper East Region; Wa in the Upper West Region; Tamale in the Northern Region, and many other volatile areas in the country where some well-established businesses were packing out,” Dr. Nduom declared.

He therefore admonished the Otuam people not to listen to politicians who would come to them waxing tribally, but instead look out to what such individuals have done to better their lots or whether they have the capability to help them out of their dire situation and vote for the latter.

Earlier, Dr. Nduom inaugurated the PPP executives in all seven polling stations at Ekumfi Narkwa. The party has 21 executive members each in all the seven polling stations at Narkwa. They were sworn into office by the Central Regional chairman of the PPP, Mr. Edu Ansah.

Dr. Nduom charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the party and go out to seek votes for the PPP in the Mfantseman East constituency which is currently being held by Hon. Kuntu Blankson of the NDC.

He ended his tour with a visit to Gomoa Dago in the Gomoa West Constituency of the Central Region where he paid a visit to the Chief of the town and later met with the polling station executives of the PPP at Dago.

The Dago people were happy that their own son was aspiring for the highest office of the land and vowed to vote for him in the December elections. Dr. Nduom obliged to a request by the chief of his paternal ancestral home town that he would help them build a community centre for his people.
