The family members of the China-Paga Member of Parliament (MP) in the Upper East Region, at a Press Conference held in Bolgatanga at the weekend appealed to government to provide them with security protection .

A statement read by the Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Mr. Ayamga Mark, for the family members, said after the murder of Dr Desmond Kaba, the MP’s son, a couple of months ago they have been receiving death threats by unknown persons.

The family members said the recent one occurred on 7th July this year when the nephew of the MP, Mr. Abdala Zepare on his way home at about 7pm from Paga to Naania, a 12 kilometre from the Paga boarder on his motorbike was chased and fired at by unidentified gunman but he escaped when he sped back to Paga where he spent the night until the next day .

The family members said even though the following day the case was reported to the Paga Police station, they still needed protection since they are still being trailed now and then by unidentified persons.

“it is imperative for we the family members of the MP for China-Paga to let the public know that after the shocking demise of our dear son, Desmond Kaba , family members of the MP have been receiving death threats to the extent that their movement are being trailed now and then by unidentified persons and we think it is important we send a signal to those in authority that the family members of the MP for China-Paga are under threat.”

They expressed the hope that the government through the security agencies would provide them with the necessary security protection to avoid any unforeseen circumstance.

They also used the occasion to inform the District Security Committee (DISEC) of the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly about the threat and appealed that they respond appropriately to avoid any unfortunate situation.

Mr. Abdala Zepare, the MP’s nephew is a polling station Chairman of the China-Paga Constituency.**
