Vakpo Chiefs demand retraction of statement by Local Government Minister

The Chiefs and people of the Vakpo Traditional Area have restated their opposition to the location of Anfoega as the capital of the North Dayi District.

They thus demanded the retraction of a statement by the Local Government Minister Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, which suggested that they were in agreement with Anfoega being the capital of North Dayi District.

“The statement by the Minister is a dent on the chiefs and people of Vakpo and we demand an immediate retraction and apology,” Togbega Gbogbolulu V, Fiaga of Vakpo Traditional Area said at a press conference at Vakpo.

Togbega Gbogbolulu explained that the statement has provoked the youths of the area who saw the statement as a betrayal on the part of the Chiefs.

He said the Vakpos would not be part of the North Dayi District Assembly with Anfoega as its capital because the district capital was not chosen democratically.

Togbega Gbogbolulu said the Vakpos would prefer to be under the Kpando Municipal Assembly because the people of Vakpo have nothing in common with the people of Anfoega for several decades due to land disputes.

The press conference was attended by Chiefs of the Vakpo Traditional Area clad in black clothes.**
