Gomoa East inaugurates registration review Committee

A seven-member Registration Review Committee for Gomoa East District of the Central Region has been inaugurated.

The members are Nana Mireku Anto, sub-Chief of Gomoa Afransi as Chairman, Mr Moses Tia Wuni, Gomoa East Electoral Officer as secretary, Mr Daniel Domie, National Democratic Congress, Mr Bright Hackeem, New Patriotic Party, Mr Francis Baidu, Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Mr Stephen Amihere, Ghana Education Service (GES) and Superintendent of Police Osei Shaibu, Swedru District Police Commander.

The committee is to investigate complaints filed against applicants including under aged, non-Ghanaians who registered during the recent Biometric Registration exercise.

Mr. Stephen Batinor of the Gomoa West Electoral Commission (EC) who inaugurated the committee urged members to put aside their political affiliations when discharging their responsibilities.

He said the committee has two weeks to complete its work and submit a report to the Regional Directorate of the EC.

Mr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Deputy Central Regional Director of the EC, said the Central Region received 1,235 voter challenge cases from all the 19 constituencies during the Biometric Voter Registration exercise and appealed to the committee to work satisfactorily to enable the EC to come out with a credible register.

He said the committee had the power of a District Magistrate’s Court and anybody who would appeal against its decision must go to the High Court.

Mr. Wuni said the Gomoa East District recorded 21 challenge cases and registered 85,107 voters.

Nana Anto appealed to the members to bury their political differences and discharge their work in a fair and principled manner.**
