Greater Accra Is For Akufo-Addo: Ishmael Ashittey

*Monday, July 26, 2010:-* The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Ishmael Ashittey has declared that “constituency chairmen in the Greater Accra Region have met and taken a unanimous decision to throw their weight behind Nana Akufo-Addo, one of the five aspirants in the upcoming August 7 primaries of the party.”

He stressed that “the decision to support Nana Akufo-Addo is not my personal decision but a collective decision that we took together as chairmen of the region and which I have been asked to convey to delegates seated here today.”

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman was speaking at the Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Senior High School where Nana Akufo-Addo together with his Victory 2012 Campaign Team met with delegates of the Tema East constituency to solicit their votes as the party draws closer to the August 7 primaries to elect flag bearer for the 2012 general elections.

“I chose to declare this collective support for Nana Akufo-Addo here in Tema East because as you all know, the Regional Chairman is a member of this constituency” he noted.

He continued that “if you all remember, the Greater Accra Regional executives under my leadership held a meeting and agreed to call for an early congress. Thankfully the NPP is holding an early congress.”

He remarked that it is their belief that “Nana Akufo-Addo is the one who can win the power for the party in 2012 because everywhere we go with the party’s message, the people tell us that Nana Akufo-Addo is their preferred choice and he should be returned as flag bearer for the 2012 elections.”

The former Fisheries Minister called on delegates to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo on August 7 after which “we will again work hard to ensure that he wins the majority votes to become president in 2012.”

Also addressing delegates of the Tema East constituency, Sheik I. C. Quaye, a former Greater Accra Regional Minister buttressed the Regional Chairman’s call by declaring that “when Greater Accra speaks for you, you know victory is yours.”

He called on delegates to consider the vast political experience of Nana Akufo-Addo, his commitment and loyalty to the party’s cause and his strong and visionary leadership qualities and vote for him as flag bearer come August 7 so that he can take the fight to the NDC and return the NPP to power in 2012.

He noted that Ghanaians are suffering under the President Mills led NDC administration and if “we work in unity as a party, victory will come our way in 2012.”

Nana Akufo-Addo on his part thanked the Regional Chairman and his executives and all the constituency chairmen for the bold decision taken to publicly declare their support for him.

“Greater Accra is indeed a great region, and I am very much impressed with the outpour of love and support that I have enjoyed since I began my tour of the region” he declared.

Nana Akufo-Addo appealed to delegates to vote him on August 7 as flag bearer “and I am confident that if we put our house together as a Party, by the Grace of God, victory will come our way in 2012.”

He reiterated his confidence in the party’s delegates, adding that “as always, delegates of our party will make the right choice on August 7.”

He tasked delegates and indeed members of the party to continue to propagate the message that the party that has the policies and programs that can help transform and develop our country is the NPP.

Also present at the OLAM Senior High School to show support for Nana Akufo-Addo include members of the Regional executive, constituency chairmen, Hon. Frema Opare Ansah, MP for Ayawaso West Wogon, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin North, Hon. Kofi Konadu Apraku, former MP for Offinso North, Hon.
