Unconscionable political leaders... Alan self-destructs?

Having lost the trust of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his ‘army’ of admirers, and now feverishly struggling to be roped into the fold of his once fiercest political adversary, Nana Akufo-Addo, former Trade Minister in the New Patriotic Party government, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, according to a political analyst, may only be pressing the self-destruction bottom.

According to the political who does not want to be named, Alan’s recent ‘warm’ relationship with the NPP 2016 flag bearer and his acolytes who hitherto despised him so much, the political pundit who does not to be named, said could best be described as political suicide mission.

“The end result of what Alan is doing could portend danger for his political future. It will get to a time that everybody will disown him. The men working with Nana Addo now will never support Alan in any flag bearer contest despite this ‘marriage of convenience’…now that he has lost the trust and confidence of likes of Mr Kufuor, Mpiani, Dr Anane, Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong, Dr Wereko Brobbey, Dr Arthur Kennedy among others, he is likely not to have any strong pillar behind him going into another NPP flag bearer contest,” the political commentator stated.

Adding that, the best the former Trade Minister should have done to restore his “lost glory in the NPP was to have made peace with his former boss and former president, Mr Kufuor, and all NPP bigwigs who because of him (Alan) are being persistently persecuted on the false notion they are his supporters.”

According to the veteran political pundit, until Mr Kyeremanten does this instead of hoping to be absorbed into Nana Akufo-Addo’s camp with assurances that he will be made Minister in the next NPP government, “he will end up being a wanderer in party and that would possibly mark the end of his political career.”

Mr Kyeremanten, in recent times has been spotted at public functions with the NPP 2016 flag bearer, making a strong case for the party to be elected ahead of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the November polls.

Addressing separate meetings of 64 Chiefs during Nana Akufo-Addo just ended tour of the Volta region; Alan also wooed voters to elect the NPP 2016 flag bearer in the upcoming November polls.

He assured that the NPP government will embark on a comprehensive programme of industrialization to provide enough jobs for Ghanaians if the NPP assumes the mantle of leadership.

“When NPP is voted into power again, we are going to embark on a comprehensive and ambitious programme of industrialization never before seen in this country because it is only through industrialization that we can create jobs.”

According to him, the building of roads, hospitals and schools were only a stop gap in the fight to eradicate poverty adding that what people really needed were jobs.
“The biggest problem Ghana faces now is how we can reduce poverty is to create jobs and the best way to reduce is to create jobs,” Mr. Kyerematen stated.

In response to the goodwill Alan has so far shown towards his presidential bid, Nana Akufo-Addo publicly stated that, the former Trade Minister will be one of the people who will play key role in his government, saying “this year give the NPP a chance and I have no doubt that we’ll deliver when voted into power. You heard Alan Kyeremateng talk about the programmes and the future development of our country if we get the chance.”

“These are the people who are going to run the economy God willing if we win in December; experienced people and competent people who are going to stand and do the right job for Ghana. That is what we want. In this 21 century we are not interested in tribal and ethnic politics, it won’t get us anywhere. This century is about knowledge, technology and innovation; we want our best people forward,” he added.

But the political pundit said “this promise is just a face saving one. What then happens when Akufo-Addo does not win the November election or, he wins, Alan is appointed Minister and subsequent booted out of his government? The way he his carrying himself is not the way to go. Akufo-Addo and his mean will never trust or, support him in any contest so he must make peace with his former mentor, Kufuor and his group.”
