Only Ga-Adangmes should be MCEs, DCEs in Greater Accra

The Ga-Adangme Concerned Youth Group has admonished President Nana Akufo-Addo and the leadership of government to appoint only Ga-Adangmes to the office of District Chief Executive (DCE) and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in Greater Accra.

The group president, Nii Ayaafio Tetteh,on January 16, said the pressure group “is making it clear to government that they will not agree if any non Ga-Adangme is handed such position”.

He explained that appointing natives from Ga Adangbe as MCEs or DCEs had been the trend since late President Mills’ administration. Also further development in the Greater Accra Region could be achieved if competent persons of Ga-Adangme are given those positions.

He disclosed signals have been picked, that some non-Ga-Adangmes were lobbying for the above-mentioned positions but the group “thinks it violates the regional balance system as stipulated in the 1992 constitution” if such positions are given to people who are not from Ga Adangbe roots.

According to him, “the denial of Ga-Adangmes of these positions in our region will not be countenanced on our land…” adding: “If possible, we shall demonstrate against the decision and create awareness to all that we are not mere pushovers”.

The group further criticised government officials of Ga-Adangme extraction, who they said were “doing very little to help our cause”.

“We also call on those Ga-Adangmes who are usurping executive powers of the president by calling for the nomination of one particular person among the three whose names have come up for the position of the mayor of Accra.

They are, therefore, warned and must desist. Specifically, names such as Elizabeth Sackey, Nii Adjei Sowah, and Prof Dodoo have come up,” he added.
