Reverend Christina Amarchey, Local Fiapre Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has welcomed the appointment of Mrs Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei as the first female chair of the Electoral Commission.

She appealed to Ghanaians to assist her with prayers in order to succeed in her endeavours.

Rev Amarchey gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the climax of the Women’s Week celebration of the church.

She said from all indications, it appeared the people of Ghana did not have much problem with the President’s choice of Mrs Osei.

“I know it is a hot seat, but I believe she will manage to ensure free and fair political transitions. What is more is for all stakeholders on the political front, to play their expected roles effectively,” she said.

Rev Amarchey said the time was right, because women formed majority of the Ghanaian populace, and had the gift of patience, commitment and devotion to duty.

“I believe the EC Boss has all the attributes of a woman of substance, and is capable of her new role. She only needs to be bold, firm and fair, in the discharge of the task assigned to her by the President.

“Though not an easy task, with total support from the government and all stakeholders, she would surely deliver,” she said.

The Local Minister urged Mrs Osei to be diligent in prayer, and seek the face of the Almighty God at all times, and serve the Lord and country in all humility and transparency.

Rev. Amarchey reminded Ghanaians that the peace, progress and development of any nation, largely depended on good governance.

She, therefore, urged Ghanaians to lend the EC Boss every support-both spiritual and physical, to enable her live up to expectation, to ensure peaceful elections.

“When she succeeds, victory is for all Ghanaians”, she concluded.
