Be vigilant and insist on financial transparency

Assembly members have been asked to be more vigilant and insist on transparency in the management of the assembly’s financial resources.

Mr. Emmanuel Antwi, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said they should keenly follow how funds including the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) were spent.

This is the way to ensure that resources are properly applied to transform the living conditions of the people – tackle their felt needs.

He was contributing to discussions at a forum on the post-2015 district level election held at Abuakwa.

The goal was to find ways to improve community involvement in the activities of the assembly and its sub-structures.

It brought together chiefs, assembly members, unit committees, religious and other opinion leaders from across the district.

The forum was organized by the NCCE with support from the European Union (EU).

Mr. Antwi underlined the need for them to stay in constant touch with those they were representing to better articulate their concerns during the assembly sittings.

He again encouraged the people to pay their levies and rates to the assembly, telling them that, its ability to provide the communities with vital infrastructure and social services would be determined by the strength of its finances.

Mr. Kaleem Abdallah Adam, the Deputy District Coordinating Director called for harmonious working relations among all players in the local governance system.

They should work together with the single-minded purpose of bringing development to the communities, he added.
