Help enhance governance -JAK to Media

Cape Coast, Aug 15, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Ghanaian media practitioners to play their partnership role to enhance good governance.

The President, who made the call during an interaction with the media at Cape Coast on Sunday, said sensationalizing issues does not promote development and urged journalists to contribute to the development of the nation.

He answered questions on development and job creation and reiterated that the economy is doing well. He said for the past three years the cedi had been stable against the dollar.

On job creation, the President said a lot of jobs been created under the President's Special Initiative, especially on cassava, but expressed concern about the closure of some industries in the region such as the Komenda Sugar Factory and Saltpond Ceramics and advised that would-be investors should do proper feasibility studies before investing in a project.

Reacting to concerns about the shoddy execution of contracts, the President repeated that contractors who fail to perform well would have their contracts terminated.

Mr George Ebo Sackey, the Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, commended the President for giving the opportunity to journalists to throw questions at him and pledged that the media in the region would continue to work hard and play their partnership role to enhance the development of the region.
