Retired Provost denounce arrogance and obsession with money by priests

Kumasi, Sept. 27, GNA - A retired Anglican Provost, the Very Reverend Albert Kwasi Mensah, has denounced the arrogance and unbridled lust for money that was fast becoming associated with priesthood. This, he noted, had come about mainly because most of those professing to be men of God had in actual fact not received any calling but found their way into the ministry just for economic comfort.

The Very Reverend Mensah was preaching the sermon at the ordination service for two Anglican priests held at the Saint Cyprian's Cathedral in Kumasi on Sunday.

The Reverend Fathers Godfred Adjei Nyarko, 34, and Enoch Duah, 42, were ordained into the church's ministry by the Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfoh, the Anglican Bishop of Kumasi.

The retired Provost asked the clergy to be faithful stewards, accountable not only to God but members of their church. He said they should therefore, be prepared to sacrifice anything that God requires of them in fulfilment of his commission.

"Yours is a divine and sacred appointment", the Very Rev Mensah added.

He told them not only to preach the word of God to convert and transform people but "let your lives give testimony of your faith and help to change others and bring salvation to them". The Very Rev Mensah said, in doing that, they should be inspired by what he termed, "the wonderful assurance of security by your Lord". Earlier, Mr D.M. Adusei, Chancellor of the Cathedral, had administered the oath to the ordinands.
