Cattle destroys farms at Dominase

Dominase (E/R), Aug. 12, GNA- The chiefs and people at the VRA Resettlement Quarters at Dominase in the Fanteakwa district, have complained about the destruction of farms by herds of cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen in the area.

They also claimed that some people were illegally claiming part of the land allocated to them under the resettlement package. They have therefore appealed to the authorities to get the Fulanis and their cattle out of the area.

These complaints were contained in a speech read on their behalf by Pastor Joseph Akwetey at the Dominase Quarters, during a visit to the place by the MP for Fanteakwa, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo on Wednesday. They complained that the transformer for the area had broken down and taken away to Koforidua by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for repairs.

They have therefore been denied electricity for the past six weeks.

Mr Kpabitey Quarm, an opinion leader in the area appealed to the Fanteakwa District Assembly to provide them with social amenities. He suggested that the Trust Fund should compensate those who lost their farmlands and other valuable properties as a result of the construction of the Volta Dam.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo who is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Valco Trust Fund, explained that the guidelines for the Board did not allow it to distribute funds to individuals but to provide development projects to resettlement communities.

He called for the tarring of the Dominase-Aboaso-Asessewa road.
