NDC predicts massive victory in Ashanti

Jacobu (Ash), July 30, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has predicted it would win most of the seats in the Ashanti Region including the Odotobri Constituency in the Election 2004.

Mr Akwasi Abayie, Regional Organiser of the Party, who made the prediction, said the NDC had doubled its efforts to win the elections. Launching the Party's new identity card at Jacobu during the Constituency's Delegates' Congress on Tuesday, Mr Abayie said the Party was now engaging in scientific politics and that it was certain to win most of the seats in the Region.

"Out of the total number of 1.9 million people, who registered in the Region, the NDC would claim one million votes", he said. In addition, out of the 33,388 registered voters in the Odotobri constituency, the NDC would win 76 per cent of votes to be cast. Mr Abayie called on the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for the area to start preparing his handing-over notes.

He, however, said the NDC could not win the elections through slogans and urged the members to work hard to ensure resounding victory. He announced that the Party had developed strategies to win the elections, stressing; "Atta-Mills will be President after December". Mr Alex Yaw Opoku, Deputy Regional Propaganda Secretary, urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to use three weeks for the photo-taking mopping up exercise in the Greater Accra Region since more people registered there than Ashanti Region.

The first identity card was bought for two million cedis by Mr George Adu-Barimah, a Bekwai-based contractor while Mr George Adu-Mensah, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency bought the second card for one million cedis.
