Assembly records low revenue for first quarter

Nkawie (Ash), May 28, GNA- The Atwima District Assembly recorded low revenue for the first quarter of this year, Mr Charles Yeboah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) has said.

He said out of the target of 262 million cedis from basic rates, the assembly collected only 37.9 million cedis.

Speaking to the Ghana news Agency (GNA) on Friday on the performance of the assembly for the first quarter of the year at Nkawie, the DCE said out of the expected revenue of 700 million cedis from lands, the assembly collected only 114.3 million cedis.

He said the assembly needed to take internally generated revenue seriously if it was to provide the people with more development projects.

He therefore urged the finance and administration sub-committee of the assembly to re-constitute the revenue mobilisation task force to collect more revenue.

On security, Mr Yeboah noted that about four murder cases believed to be for ritual purposes had been recorded in the district within four months and advised the communities in the district to set up neighbourhood watch committees to assist the security agencies to track down criminals.

He said 5.1 billion cedis was released to the assembly last year as its share of the Common Fund and that part of the money was used for the completion of the district's office of the Controller and Accountant General's Department and one semi-detached bungalow and the remaining on district police headquarters and a circuit court building.
