Rejoinder: SSNIT spends GH¢240m on posting cards

We refer to the online posting by www.ghanaweb.com on Tuesday, 14th June, 2016 and set right the misinformation.

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), is conducting an exercise to re-register all its members – active, inactive and pensioners biometrically and issue them with SSNIT Biometric Smart Cards.

These Biometric Cards have 10-fingerprints imprint and other personal bio-data. This is to enable members of the SSNIT Scheme to be easily identified in claim processing and any other transactions that require personal identification.

The nature of the registration process is such that, the Smart Cards cannot be handed to the member instantly. The member is informed by phone, text or email to collect the Smart Card for activation at a later date.

In the event that the cards are not collected form the chosen SSNIT Branch, they are sent to Ghana Post for mailing.

The figure that the online posting indicated was a gross misrepresentation of the fact. The amount mentioned was GH¢24,000.00 for all the postage for the Takoradi Area. The other reporters will attest to the fact.

We take this opportunity to inform all SSNIT contributors who have undergone the SSNIT Biometric Registration in the past four (4) weeks or more to collect their Smart Cards from their choice of Branch. Kindly amend your records with this publication.
