ANIDA trains over 700 women in 10 years

The All Nations International Development Agency (ANIDA) had, through the Women’s Development Centre (WDC), supported over 700 women through its educational empowerment program within the last 10 years.

This number excludes children and males who have been empowered by the centre, and the current number of 235 students enrolled at the WDC under the sponsorship of ANIDA.

Disclosing this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Dr Samuel Donkor, President of All Nations University College and All Nations Development Agency (ANIDA) said, their role is to empower the women to become literates, and contribute their quota to the development of the country.

He said the centre is training the women in programmes such as basic business skills, to enable them manage their businesses, and make good use of their income, their ability to access banks and expand their businesses.

He said some of the women are also being trained in hairdressing, reading, writing and the speaking of the English language.

The women are also taught good parenting skills, importance of breastfeeding, HIV awareness and basic computing skills.

Dr Donkor indicated that, currently, the centre has 300 children under its care across the length and breadth of the country, and said their education is being sponsored freely by ANIDA.

He indicated that the centre also has programmes for school drop-outs, to complete their education in both Junior and Senior High Schools.

Dr Donkor disclosed that ANIDA wants to expand its programmes to other parts of the world, and hinted of the construction of a centre, which will be dedicated to the course of empowering women in the country.
