Cocoa mass-spraying programme boosted by US$200m

More than US$200 million has been invested on the mass cocoa spraying exercise in order to increase the production of cocoa for export through government’s intervention.

As part of the package, 1.6 million bags of inorganic fertilisers and 22,000 litres of organic ones will be distributed to farmers to help raise the yields of the crop.

The acting Executive Director of Cocoa Health and Extension Division of COCOBOD, Dr. Francis Baah, gave the information at a forum with cocoa farmers dubbed “Ghana Cocoa Platform” in Koforidua.

Ghana is the second-biggest producer of cocoa in the world, with an estimated 800,000 people said to benefit directly from cocoa production.
