Shame on GPHA for sitting down and watching while the two Potts under it's management go bad. Now they are crying. Since when did they start talking about expanding the two ports? Stealing from Ghanaians is all they know. If this oil services terminal is left in their hands it could take forever to come. Meanwhile the services the port seeks to render the industry is currently going to South Africa. Lonrhro bring it on.

the Unions are clearly being used by GPHA to speak out about this project do they not realize that they are being used? Do they really think that if we did not have the oil industry in Ghana the port would be closed - of course not, we read year after year that the ports are congested and GPHA do nothing to expand capacity and continue to cost the country more money than we can afford. Mr President if your cabinet have approved this agreement, then i trust your judgement to work in the interest of our beloved country, and i urge you to ensure this project is realized for the jobs it will create and the benefit it will bring to the nation

Re: Nana is illegal political galamsy man.
The sentence is excessive unless this guy has a previous record of armed robbery. Yes, the judgement as stated here is too harsh looking at the age of the criminal and if this is his first time.
People are just looking at the value of how much he stole without looking at the means by which he stole it. Anytime you steal from somebody by using force which a weapon is brandished, it is termed armed robbery and the value of what you stole become insignificant. If he has picked-pocket the phone and money, the longest prison sentence might have been 2 years but the moment he pulled a knife, it became a different crime.
The Judge should have taken his age into consideration but we might not be getting the whole story. This guy might have been a habitual criminal who might have been given a respite before.
Ace Ankomah, a known lawyer explains the reason behind the judgement
“I will provide just ONE answer to all of your questions: “The judge is right. In the hype and the misleading headline by the journalist, many have missed a critical aspect of the story. Baffuor Awuah was not convicted of stealing. He was convicted of and sentenced for ROBBERY.
“The prosecutor said that [refusal to comply with the request for money] angered the two, who drew a knife, attacked the victim, and forcibly removed his phone and cash...”
“Robbery, under Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, is a FIRST DEGREE FELONY. Under Section 150, the offence of robbery is committed if in, and for the purpose of, stealing, a person uses force or causes harm, or uses even threats or assault, with the intention of preventing or overcoming the resistance of the other person.
“Under Section 196 of the Criminal & Other Offences (Procedure) Act, unless a statute prescribes a specific punishment, a person convicted of a first degree felony is liable to life imprisonment or “any lesser term.”
“And so this guy could have been sentenced to life imprisonment. He is lucky to get away with a “lesser term” of 45 years. Note: It is not about the value of the item that he ended up stealing, but the fact that he committed a robbery (used force or the threat of force or an assault, when he drew the knife and attacked the victim). THAT is what has sent him to jail for 45 years.
“On the facts, there is precious little, to no, difference between this guy and the guy who robs you at night in your house and only gets a mobile phone.”

John Mahama Sunyani Congress
President John Dramani Mahama has stated that indigenes of the Ashanti Region are not ‘appreciative’ of efforts made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, to bring development projects to Ghana and in particular the Ashanti Region.
The president, who was speaking in the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party, made the comment when he addressed teeming supporters of the National Democratic Congress at the office of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council on the first day of his three-day tour of the region.
The president’s comment has not gone down well with some residents of Kumasi who have had the opportunity to listen to the comment on various media platforms in the regional capital and elsewhere.
In the comment made in the Twi language to his party supporters, the president said Ashantis will not appreciate any good thing his government does.
“The presidency is working hard so don’t allow anyone to deceive you into thinking that we are retrogressing. As I speak, there are several projects ongoing. We are constructing roads, providing water and electricity. Since I came, we have inspected ongoing renovation works on the runway of the Kumasi Airport. We are fixing instruments at the Airport to allow for both day and night flights. We have also inspected the DIHOC Shoe Factory where there are new machines for producing footwear for the military here in Kumasi”.
“However, the Akans have a saying that, the chicken never pleases the hawk no matter how well it dances. But that shouldn’t discourage us. We have noted the promise we made to Ghanaians for which we were voted into power. As for Kumasi, even if we construct roads tarred with gold, they will tell us that we did nothing,” the president stated.
“Come 2016, we will account for each one of them and surely we will be voted into office again,” he added.

In the first place, did the President say "Ashantis" its a BIG NO. So why is peacefmonline trying hard to poison the minds of readers? In the body of the story, what the President said has been duly quoted. So why on earth should the headline read differently? Now people are just raining insults on this man. When did Ghana become like this? In the entire story, no mention of Ashantis was ever made by the presidents. The politics is becoming too much. Everything people want to take advantage to score political points but it does not work that way.

Mahama didn’t speak against Ashantis - Ashanti RCC
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has explained that President John Dramani Mahama did not say Ashantis were unappreciative of efforts made by his Government to bring development to the region.
The President, who was addressing party supporters at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi, suggested that even if his government constructed roads made of gold in Kumasi, it would not be appreciated.
Making his point, he stated, “The Akans have a saying that, the hen never pleases the hawk no matter how well she dances. But that shouldn’t discourage us. We have noted the promise we made to Ghanaians for which we were voted into power. Some people, even if we construct roads tarred with gold in Kumasi, they will tell us that we did nothing”.
The comments have gone viral on numerous news portals, social media and television and radio discussions with several people reading an array of meanings into the president’s public speech in Kumasi.
But the presidency says the president’s statement meant no harm to any specific group of people especially because he did not mention or say Ashantis as has been reported in sections of the media.
Explaining what the President said, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council which hosted the President in the region for the three-day tour, contended that the President has been misrepresented by sections of the media.
Speaking on Kumasi based Ultimate Radio, the Public Relations Officer for the RCC in the Ashanti Region, Clement Kigeri, pointed out that by his scrutiny of the tapes, the president never made references to Ashantis as a people.
He indicated that the President only borrowed an Ashanti proverb to make a “very fair and frank analogy about how his political opponents could be blatantly ungrateful for any achievement of his government since the President was addressing party supporters.”
“When I read the story I became disturbed because the story is not the true reflection of what the president said. People who were present will bear witness to the fact that he never mentioned anywhere in his statement that Asantefo (Ashantis). He used a proverb to support whatever he said."
“In the course of the statement he said, we have done this and that in Kumasi but for certain people, apparently referring to his political opponents, even if you use gold to decorate this city, those political opponents will not appreciate it. And I think that the President was very frank and fair to the facts,” he stated.
Emphasizing that the President has no axe to grind with people of the Ashanti Region, he stated that the President is rather in contest with opposition political parties and not with tribes and it will be inappropriate for anyone to read such meanings as the president describing Ashantis as unappreciative.
“If there is a contest you don’t expect your political opponents to appreciate whatever you do. If they appreciate, then it presupposes that there is no need for you to be changed. So for your political opponents to always criticize you its normal; and for them to blatantly refuse to appreciate the good works you have done is permissible within every political circle."
“So if he says that his political opponents will not appreciate his efforts even if he decorates this city with Gold, it is farfetched for anybody to say he is referring to Ashantis. He is never referring to Ashantis. Ashanti is a tribe. He is contesting with various political parties and not any tribe in Ghana. And the President as a communicator will never say such thing” he emphasized.
Despite this response from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, other Government communicators precisely at the Information Ministry are giving varied interpretations and responses, with some accusing sections of the media of doctoring the tape.

Mahama’s comment about K’si not far from the truth – Ayariga
Mahama Ayariga Addressed The Media
Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mahama Ayariga, has defended President John Mahama’s purported comment which suggested that residents in the Ashanti Region are unappreciative of government’s effort to develop the region.
According to him, the president was only drawing attention to the attitude of Ashantis towards the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
The president, during his three-day visit to the Ashanti Region over the weekend, addressed teeming supporters of the NDC at the office of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
In his address, he said: “Planes can land morning, afternoon and evening at the [Kumasi Airport]; we have also brought in new equipment to manufacture shoes for soldiers [at the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC)]. But there is an Akan proverb which says no matter how nice the dance of the fowl is, it never impresses the hawk – when the fowl dances for the hawk, the hawk never find it beautiful.”
He went on to say “don’t let this deter us because for you in Kumasi, even if we construct roads tarred with gold, you will still say we’ve done nothing.” The Ashanti Region is widely recognized as the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) whereas the Volta Region is seen as the stronghold of the NDC.
Mr. Ayariga in his defence said: “The president has said it in the best way he could. I think that, what the president said [is about] our attitudes sometimes and this is specific to some political groups; the attitude of never appreciating anything good done by opponents.”
According to him, political opponents in Ghana largely never appreciate and acknowledge efforts made by ruling governments and “I think that it’s been an age-old [phenomenon] by the different political groups never to appreciate anything good done by political opponents.”
“I think it’s applicable to strongholds of different political parties,” he told an Accra based Joy FM.
He continued saying, “it is this culture of just refusing to recognise anything good in what political opponents do that the president was clearly decrying.” Mr. Ayariga admonished Ghanaians to change their attitudes and “let’s be fair in our assessment of political opponents, whether NDC or NPP or CPP.”
The President’s alleged comments have been seriously criticised by the people of Kumasi while some have also taken to social media to express their displeasure at the development.
