Deputy BA Fire Commander pulled out

THE DEPUTY Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Kwabena Taah Korang, has been pulled out from the Service at a colourful ceremony held last Friday in Sunyani.

ACFO Korang was recruited into the Service as a Cadet Officer in 1992 and served in various leadership positions and became one-time Regional Fire Officer for Tema and the Volta Region and a Deputy Fire Safety Director at the national headquarters.

At his official retirement ceremony, ACFO Korang charged fire personnel to be the master strategists over fire which he said, is their enemy.

He noted that victory over fire could be achieved by personnel upgrading themselves because fire is science.

ACFO Korang, therefore, advised fire officers to be dedicated and diligent in their work in order to be able to work at any place they find themselves.

He admonished them to abide by the rules and regulations of the Service to earn them good ratings when it comes to performance assessment.

He commended the Chief Fire Officer and the Regional Fire Commander as well as other personnel for the good working relations that existed among them.

As part of the ceremony, eleven other junior and superior officers of the GNFS in the region were formally retired. They included Divisional Officer I (DOI) Grace Darkoah, DOI Mohammed Boachie, DOII Oduro Maxwell, Assistant Divisional Officer (ADOI) Kennedy Danso and ADOI Francis Nyarko.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Fire Officer, ACFO Kwame Larbi-Apraku, commended the retired officers for the many years of their dedicated services to the Service in particular and the nation at large.

According to him, the retired officers contributed greatly to the reduction of fire incidents in the region.

ACFO Larbi-Apraku disclosed that there had been a tremendous decrease in fire-related incidents in the region, per the first quarter statistics of this year.

He, however, noted that the region was still second on the national chart. He, therefore, called for collaborative efforts to bring down fire outbreaks.

The ceremony was attended by the Queen mother of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Yaa Nyamaa, heads of sister security agencies, families of the retirees, among others.
