Abiriwhene commends police

Abiriw Akuapem Feb. 08, GNA - Nana Kwame Henaku II, chief of Abiriw in the Akuapem North District, has commended the Ghana Police Service for thei= r efforts in making sure that the perpetrators in recent shooting incident at Abiriw were arrested.

"Since the incident, the efforts of the police to ensure that peace prevails within Abiriw and its surroundings are commendable," he said. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nana Kwame Henaku also commended the people of Abiriw for the matured manner they conducted themselves since the incident occurred.

The incident left one person, Asiamah Bekoe, dead, with two others, Kwabena Adu and Samuel Adu, sustaining injuries and are receiving treatment at the Saint Joseph's Hospital in Koforidua. It would be recalled that on January 26, some young men from Abiriw went to clear a piece of land for farming and a group of youth from Dawu, a neighbouring town, opened fire on them without any provocation. Kwabena Adu and Samuel Adu were shot while Asiamah Bekoe was kidnapped= .. When the news got to the people of Abiriw about what had happened they informed the police who went to the scene but did not find Asiamah Bekoe. The following day when the police together with the town folks went to the scene of the incident again they found that Asiamah Bekoe had been shot dead.

According to the Akropong Divisional Crime Officer of the Police, Tony Addepa, eleven suspects had so far been arrested and were now in police custody in Accra. He gave the assurance that all the suspects would be put before the court after investigations had been completed. 8 Feb. 11
