Make Party Structures Attractive to Floating Voters-CENAB UK advises NPP

A UK based advocacy group, CENAB UK, which is part of a global coalition to elect Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia in 2016, has urged NPP leadership to make the structures of the party flexible and attractive enough for floating voters, volunteers and persons who are not natural NPP voters.

The group is urging the NPP leadership to make it easy for persons to operate within and outside the ambits of the party structures and allow the spirit of volunteerism and self-help to permeate all levels of the party. At the moment, according to the group, the party leadership is too cautious as to who is doing what rather than what is being done. The Party should emulate the all-embracing work ethics of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia in order to attract floating voters to the party.

CENAB UK is therefore urging this for the welcoming spirit of Nana and Bawumia to cascade down the party structures in order to make the party attractive, the statement continued. Quoting from former US President Franklin Roosevelt, the statement called on the party leaders to speak in a tone of tolerance, accommodation, reconciliation and sharing of relevant information as well as recognise the effort of people who are not in leadership positions but who are determined to work.

We the members of CENAB UK congratulate NPP party leadership so far for the work they have done in 2014 and so far in 2015 in ensuring that the Party remains the most credible alternative to the NDC. The journey to unseat the NDC and create a truly better government for Ghana is a long one that cannot be chartered on a solo effort but on an all embracing coalition of the good people of Ghana.
It is therefore incumbent on the party leadership to make the structures of the party flexible and attractive enough to bring in floating voters, and persons who are not natural NPP voters. In the year 2000, it took the collective effort of persons who were fed up with NDC corruption, ineptitude and opulence to remove the administration in the second round of the elections.
The NDC have managed to take us back to that level and even beyond. This time they have added arrogance and intransigence to their incompetence, making it even more paramount for the good people of Ghana to boot them out in 2016. To do this will be to make NPP party leaders speak in a tone of tolerance, accommodation, reconciliation and sharing of relevant information. The leaders must also recognise the effort of people who are not in leadership positions but who are determined to work. Party work is done through open systems and information sharing. In the words of former US President Franklin Roosevelt, “where there is information, there is enlightenment. When there is debate, there are solutions. When there is no sharing of power, no rule of law, no accountability, there is abuse, subjugation and indignation”
CENAB UK takes a cue from the words of NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Adjepong when he described the party as being built on the principles of “volunteerism and self-help” and call on the party to give room for volunteers to work to enhance the objective of the party- which is to win power in 2016.
CENAB UK calls for the leadership of the party to be tolerant to external ideas and efforts of volunteers that complement the work of the party. The party must also reach out of its comfort zones, and operate outside its structures in order to attract people of other political persuasions and people who are patriotic but not politically committed to any political party or ideology.
