GIS: 49 illegal Nigerian immigrants yet to be repatriated

The forty nine illegal Nigerian immigrants who were picked up in the Volta region on Friday are yet to be repatriated, Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Immigration Service, Francis Palmdeti has said.

According to him, the Immigration Service is yet to complete the routine screening standards required before they are deported.

The immigrants who claimed to be fulanis from the Oyo state in Nigeria were travelling to Chinderi, the capital of Krachie-Nchurumu but were deserted with their belongings at the ferry crossing area in Dambai by the driver who drove them from Nigeria.

According to their leader, who holds a Nigerian Voter I.D with the name Atiku Alhaji Adams, they were scheduled to arrive at Chinderi where they will engage in cattle herding.

Although there were reports Sunday that the immigrants have been deported, Palmdeti told Kafui Dey on the Morning Starr Monday that the immigrants are still within the borders of Ghana.

He notes, however, that they will be deported anytime soon.

He said the Immigration Service is on high alert to its core duties of securing the borders of Ghana.
