PROGRESS IN EDUCATION COMPLETES 7TH YEAR OF EDUCATION OUTREACH IN GHANA

September 30, Houston, TX. – Progress In Education, Inc. (PIE) completed its seventh year of operation on July 31, 2007, with total cash donations of $14,300. This compares favorably with FY 2006 total of $16,825, which included over $4,000 in directed giving and sponsored projects by WGHS and TARSCO alumni.

“Our fund raising efforts, including our third annual golf fundraiser in Northern Virginia, and community outreach programs are paying off, and we intend to redouble our efforts in this coming year,” said Griffiths Ayiteyfio, Chairman and President of PIE.. For FY 2007/2008, PIE intends to recruit ten additional advisory board members and an additional director to enable our operations to benefit more students in Ghana, and to promote greater cultural awareness.

For the year ended July 31, 2007, thirteen secondary schools in Ghana received computers, monitors, printers, science laboratory equipment worth approximately twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000).

In the United States, the Ghana Association of Houston was the beneficiary of a corporate sponsored grant of $500 for its Ghana @50 essay writing contest. Additionally, PIE was a community partner in a lecture featuring former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, in Houston, TX, on April 16, 2007. Recipients of PIE grants in Ghana applied for, and were chosen by the Board of Directors of PIE in consultation with the organization’s NGO affiliate in Ghana, PIE, Ghana Ltd. Their selection is based in part, on the potential for the grants to improve the quality of academic instruction in those institutions.

PIE’s grant program has benefited students in several senior secondary schools in the Volta, Eastern, Western, Central, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions of Ghana. “Feedback from Ghana, including video testimonials, provide clear indications that our programs are on track, and we are confident that this year's grant recipients will enhance PIE’s mission of creating a better world community by investing in secondary school education” said Griffiths Ayiteyfio.

Winneba Secondary School, Central Region

Since its formation in 2000, PIE has contributed over 130 computers, science laboratory equipment and books worth over $80,000, to promote the quality of education for secondary school students in five regions of Ghana. PIE also has promoted cross-cultural understanding between Ghanaians and Americans by getting involved in the communities in Ghana and the USA.
