The Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation (GPSF) of North America donates modern educational tool to the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) The Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation (GPSF) of North America, the national organization for Ghanaian medical professionals in the United States and Canada, has sponsored a subscription to the world renowned online educational tool “UpToDate” for The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) at a cost of $5000 annually. “UpToDate®” is an evidence-based knowledge system authored by international medical experts to help clinicians make the right decisions at the point of care. It is an online tool readily available as a resource that healthcare providers can use to immediately access information to help guide decisions regarding patient care.

In receiving the gift, Professor Ofori - Adjei , Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons expressed his profound gratitude on behalf of the College. He pointed out that access to this educational tool will change the way doctors in Ghana deliver healthcare. “UpToDate®” will go a long way to support specialty training of Ghanaian postgraduate physicians at the College. The GPSF was established almost 11 years ago to support programs of the GPCS. Other programs that the GPSF has co-sponsored with the GCPS include an annual continued medical education program for doctors in practice, held in Accra for the last two years and will be held in Kumasi in 2013. For the last decade, the GPSF has contributed teaching faculty to the GCPS. These professionals have also provided their expertise to the various medical Schools (Korle-Bu Teaching hospital, UCC School of Medical Sciences and KNUST -SMS and UDS-SOM).

The Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation of North America (GPSF) was established to support the mission of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) which was established by an Act of Parliament in 2002 to provide quality postgraduate training in Medicine in Ghana. It also serves as an advocacy group to influence health policy and educate the general public about numerous health care issues in Ghana and Africa. The foundation supports all non-profit health initiatives in Ghana by Ghanaian and other health professionals in North America. GPSF organizes a yearly conference and fundraiser in Atlanta, Georgia USA to support its efforts in further strengthening the mission of the GCPS.
