Last Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Golden Theater in Broadway, New York, a true daughter of Ghana, Ms. Akosua Busia, made Ghanaians proud with her performance in Eclipsed, a Tony awards Nominated play.

The story line of Eclipsed has it that amid the chaos of the Liberian Civil War, captive wives of a rebel officer, band together to form a fragile society, until their lives was disturbed by the arrival of the rebel officer’s new wife.

Drawing on reserves of wit and compassion, Eclipsed revealed women, who discovered their own means of survival in a deeply felt portrayal of women, finding and testing their own strength in a hostile world of horrors, not of their own making.

The night was dubbed Ghana Appreciation Night.

Starring as Ma Peace, Akosua Busia was very instrumental in advocating for peace in war torn Liberia, once an American colony.

Speaking to a section of the Ghanaian Community who patronized the theater, His Excellency Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, commended Akosua Busia for raising high the flag of Ghana internationally, especially in the US and presented to her a National Flag and a plaque conferring on her “The True Daughter of motherland Ghana”.

Ambassador Smith told the gathering to be good Ambassadors of Ghana in their local communities and be proud of the motherland.

Ghana, he said, has earned a lot of respect from the international community because for 25 years, the country has been through 6 major elections and transferred power peacefully, making her a model of democracy on the African continent.

This, he said, is an achievement Ghanaians should be proud of.
