Two remanded on robbery charge

Two persons were on Tuesday remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Rashid Zakari and Abubakar Saddick were said to have conspired and robbed one Thomas Ashigbi of one Techno and one Motorolla Mobile phones all worth GH¢ 1,500.00.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded by the court to reappear on December 4.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent Earnest Acheampong said the complainant is a student who lives at Abokobi Boi near Madina, while the accused persons are both unemployed and reside at Madina and Agbogbloshie.

He said on November 5, at about 0200 hours the complainant closed from church at Light House Chapel International, Madina Branch and was going home when Rashid emerged from nowhere and attacked him at Hannah School junction near Asante Home Touch Restaurant, Madina branch.

He said as the complainant started struggling to flee himself, Abubakar came out and assisted Rashid as a result of which they assaulted the complainant with stones.

DSP Acheampong said the complainant on seeing that his life was in immediate danger, became submissive to them and they collected his Techno and Motorolla mobile phones worth GH¢ 1,500.00.

He told the court that when the accused persons realised some people were coming closer to where the incident took place they took to their heels and escaped, but they were pursued and in the process, Rashid was arrested at Madina lorry station.

The prosecution said on November 20, Abubakar was also arrested in his hideout at Agbogbloshi.

He said Rashid in his caution statement told the police that although he was walking with Abubakar, who attacked the complainant, he did not participate in the commission of the crime.

Abubakar also in his caution statement stated that it was Rashid who attacked the complainant first and started beating him up but he did not take part and that as the complainants mobile phones dropped during the process, he also took them and run away.
