Tricksters dupe Obuasi residents of over Ghc20,000

Unidentified tricksters have duped three Obuasi residents to the tune of over Ghc23,000 in three separate incidents.

The fourth person, who would have lost Ghc2,500 to the tricksters, was lucky when the tricksters realised that they were being monitored by the police and abandoned the idea and absconded.

In a media briefing on the emerging crime in some parts of the country, the Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Antwi-Boasiako told the press that the victims had pleaded anonymity.

He said the tricksters adopted various methods including business transactions in the Tullow oil deal and sales of cars to dupe their unsuspected victims.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako warned the public to be wary of such people in the system, and urged those intending to dispose off their cars to avoid supplying their telephone numbers on them- together with the ‘’for sale’’ tags.

The Divisional Crime Officer cautioned the public to be careful about the activities of these gangsters.

"The public should be alert to avoid being tricked," he stressed, adding that, "so far no arrest has been made to this effect."

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako said few armed robbery cases had been recorded on the Obuasi Airport- Anankyirem, Airport- Adaase and Airport-Bisease roads, and that, at the moment, one arrest had been made whilst police patrol checks had been intensified.

The Divisional Crime Officer said in spite of these cases of the tricksters and the pockets of armed robbery cases, the general crime situation in the municipality was "within limits".

He appealed to the media to launch an educational campaign- to alert the public on dubious characters in the system- to prevent people from falling victims to their clandestine operations.
