The Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced two armed robbers to a total of 40 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbery. Kamal Mohammed, a 32 year-old unemployed and Karim Yoda, a 20 year-old illegal miner were both convicted on their own plea of guilty.

The third suspect, Abdul Razack Musah, a driver died in prison custody while the case was on going. Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, the complainant Mr. Moses Anderson, is a gold buyer residing at Kadadwen near Nsueam in the Western region.

He said in September 2012, at about 01:00 hours, Kamal, Abdul and Karim, together with five others at large, attacked the complainant’s employer, Apeweh Beyepuna with weapons in an uncompleted building belonging to the complainant.

The Prosecutor said after the robbers took Beyepuna’s GH¢ 475 and two Nokia phones valued at GH¢ 115, they inflicted cutlass wounds on his forehead and later marched him at gun point to Mr Anderson’s house, about 300 meters away from where he stayed with other employers.

Detective Amponsah said when the convicts and their accomplices got to the house they asked the complainant to surrender all his monies and gold but he refused. The robbers then subjected the complainant to severe beatings and made away with a cash sum of GH¢ 25,000 and quantity of gold worth GH¢ 4,600.

He said after the robbers had escaped, the victims made a report to the police who issued them with medical forms to attend hospital.

Detective Amponsah said on that same day at about 0430 hours, the complainant saw Kamal, Abdul and Karim at Nsueam and reported them to the police. Kamal and Abdul were arrested but Karim managed to escape but was later arrested from his hideout at Konongo in the Ashanti region.
