Accused caused laughter in court

The Kade District Magistrate Court exploded with laughter when an accused convicted on a charge of stealing pleaded with the magistrate to send him to prison for not more than four months.

But the Magistrate, Mr. Abdul Majid Iliasu sentenced Abibu Tanko Seidu, a scrap dealer to a fine of GH¢600 or in default to serve for 12 months in prison.

Seidu pleaded guilty to stealing 10 pieces of roofing sheets belonging to the Great Consolidated Diamonds Ghana Limited (GCDGL), Akwatia.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector D.D.T Wayoe said, the complainants were GCDGL security officers whilst the accused is a scrap dealer resident at Akwatia Zongo.

On June 17 at about 7:30 pm witnesses in the case saw the accused and another person now at large removing aluminum roofing sheets from the company’s poultry farm.

The witnesses laid ambush with two others in a bid to arrest the two whilst leaving the premises with their booty, unfortunately they were able to arrest Seidu and his accomplice escaped leaving behind his black pair of sandals.

The accused when sent to the police station refused to assist the Police to locate his accomplice, now on the run.
