Scrap dealer and house help remanded on robbery charge

A scrap dealer and house help were on Wednesday remanded by an Accra Circuit court for conspiracy to commit crime.

Faisal Eliasu Kofi and Ibrahim Abdul Aziz allegedly conspired with two others, now at large, and robbed some Nigerian nationals of seven assorted laptops, 10 mobile phones worth Ghc1, 500.00 and an amount of Ghc2,300.00.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded into prison custody by the court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri to reappear on June 23.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the court that the complainants are Nigerian nationals residing at Nautical College near Nungua while Faisal resides at Ashiaman and Ibrahim at Nungua.

He said on June 8, at about 2000 hours the accused persons met at Abrafi spot, a popular drinking spot at Nungua and planned to go on a robbery expedition.

He said they proceeded to the complainants’ house, broke into the room where all five of them were sleeping, subjected them to severe beatings and robbed them at gunpoint.

The prosecution said the accused persons were arrested and a locally manufactured pistol loaded with six cartridges which they used during the robbery was retrieved. Their accomplices however managed to escape with the stolen items.

DSP Acheampong said in their caution statements, they both admitted the offences and led the police to their accomplices’ house but they were not traced, however threes assorted laptops and a mobile phone was retrieved from their room.
