Two artisans in trouble over alleged theft

Two artisans, a plumber and a mason, have appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court accused of stealing two laptop computers and other items, totaling about Ghc1,400.00.

Patrick Owusu Antwi, the plumber, and Akwasi Owusu, reportedly broke into a room to steal at Ampabame in Kumasi.

They were charged with conspiracy, unlawful entry and stealing, but they told the court that they are innocent of what they are being accused of.

They were granted bail in the sum of Ghc6,000.00 each with a surety to make their next appearance on June 23.

They were also ordered by the court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Adu-Amankwaah, to report to the police every Tuesday until the determination of the case.

Police Chief Inspector Sylvanus D’almeida said the crime was committed on May 20.

The complainant, one Baffour, was sleeping with the friend, when the two slipped into the room at about 0200 hours to steal two laptop computers, monitor, five cellular phones and cash of Ghc60.00.

Baffour woke up in time to see Antwi making off with the monitor and two laptop computers, and he raised the alarm.

The prosecution said  a police patrol team that happened to be in the area responded and arrested him.

Owusu was arrested later with the rest of the stolen items and cash. He denied taking part in the crime, but said he bought some of the phones.
