SIC thief busted

A 32-year-old man who broke into the offices of the Adabraka branch of State Insurance Company (SIC) and made away with some laptops, digital camera and a cash of GH¢800.00 has been arrested by the police.

The suspect, Richard Essien Kwame Danso, a resident of Labadi and a native of Akim Kwabeng in the Eastern Region was nabbed Saturday morning with the help of a taxi driver whom he hired to transport the items.

Kwame has since admitted to the offence of stealing levelled against him and is now in the custody of the Adabraka Police awaiting trial.

Briefing Daily Guide, DSP Ebenezer Nketia, Adabraka District Crime Officer said Kwame Danso was arrested the same day he stole the items.

He said around 6:00am of November 30, 2013, Kwame Danso entered the premises of the Adabraka branch of the State Insurance Company, (SIC) and took advantage of the workers who were dozing off to steal items including a dell laptop, Samsung tablet, an apple laptop, a digital camera and a cash of GH¢800 belonging to the IT department.

The suspect, after taking the items, managed to run out of the building and hire the services of a taxi driver to Circle, Tip-Toe lane, to possibly sell the items, but on reaching Circle, he asked the taxi driver to take him to Accra instead.

The taxi driver became suspicious and handed the suspect over to the Adabraka Police when they got to the police station.

A search conducted in his bag by the police revealed the aforementioned stolen items.

Attached to one of the laptops was a complementary card belonging to one of the IT personnel. When the number on the card was called, the worker went to identify the items and consequently led police to their premises to further investigate the matter.

Police investigations revealed that Kwame actually sneaked into the offices of the insurance company; hence, he was captured on their CCTV camera stealing the items.

Kwame later confessed to the offence and has since been charged for stealing and would be put to court today.

DSP Nketia commended the taxi driver for his good work done.

He entreated the public to assist police to curb criminality in the country and also called on companies to put in place better security measures to avoid crimes of this nature.
