A revenue collector and his accomplice have been arrested in connection with the killing of a seven-year-old girl for ritual purposes at Kwabibi, near Dadeasoba in the Asutifi South District in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The revenue collector, identified as Kwasi Saabour, 47, is said to have snatched the girl from Mary Opoku, one of the suspects, and clubbed her to death in the bush.
The girl, whose name has been given as Emmanuela Sarpomaa, was said to be in the company of Mary, 18, when Saabour forcibly took her from Mary, sent her into a nearby cocoa farm before hitting her head with a stick, killing her instantly.
Briefing the Daily Graphic at Goaso, the District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mr Twumasi Ankrah, said on September 18, 2013 the deceased’s father, Mr Richard Kyei, reported that her seven-year-old daughter had gone missing.
He said the police, working together with some of the residents of Kwabibi, mounted a search for the child but to no avail.
According to Chief Supt Ankrah, the police later had information that the girl had been in the company of Mary, one of the suspects, on that fateful day.
On September 19, 2013, the police arrested the young woman and, during interrogation, she said while she was moving with Sarpomaa on that day, Saabour met them and forcibly took the girl into a nearby cocoa farm and hit her head with a club, killing her instantly.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Saabour.
Chief Supt Ankrah said the two suspects would be arraigned after investigations.
Meanwhile, the body of the girl has been deposited at the Goaso Government Hospital awaiting post mortem.
