A 30-year-old farmer in the Eastern region, Ben Nartey has committed suicide after going on a shooting spree killing one of his three children, injuring his ex-wife, and his ex mother-in-law.
His other two children were not spared as they also sustained gun-shot wounds and are on admission at the Koforidua Government Hospital.
According to the Deputy Eastern regional Police Commander ACP James Abass-Abaa, Ben Nartey, a divorcee, on Thursday, January 3, took his three children to the family of his ex-wife with the excuse that he was traveling and would return on the following day.
Ben Nartey, according to ACP Abass-Abaa, returned shortly after with a fully loaded single-barrel gun firing at his children, his ex-wife, and the mother-in-law, leaving them for dead before bolting to a near-by bush to seek refuge.
The Deputy Eastern regional Police Commander stated that as police closed in on the suspect in the bush, he gunned himself with the same gun he had committed the atrocity with.
The incident according to ACP Abass-Abaa has left the entire town of Akora-Darko near Begoro in shock and disbelief.
