Driver fined GHC9600 for careless driving

A Cape Coast Circuit court on Tuesday fined a 39-year old driver, Anane Boateng Ernest, GH?9600 for careless, inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful harm.

The convict, who pleaded guilty to all the charges, would go to prison for 16 months in default.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court, presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that, on November 4, 2010, at about 15:40hrs, the convict, driving an Opel Astra taxi cab with registration number AS 3379-10 from Konongo towards Cape Coast, knocked down a 7-year old girl, Gifty Amoah who was crossing the road.

The incident took place on a section of the road near the Obiri Yeboah Senior High School on the Foso-Kumasi highway.

He said, the victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin-Foso, where she died shortly on arrival.

Chief Inspector Anku said after investigations, the docket was sent to the Attorney General’s office in Cape Coast and the convict was charged with careless, inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful harm.
