Two persons were on Monday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment each by an Accra circuit court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Baba Anaba Musah and Evans Ogbey, both unemployed, were said to have conspired and robbed Emmanuel Quartey, the retired Military Officer, and his daughter of one laptop, four mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges but were found guilty by the court after full trial. Baba and Evans are both to serve 25 years each for conspiracy and 25 years each for robbery, but both to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Acheampong, told the court that the complainant is a retired military officer residing at Agblezaa, while the convicts are both unemployed and reside at Teshie.

He said about two years ago, the convicts and two others namely Samuel Bortey and Alex Ametepey went to the house of the complainant around 0200 hours.

The prosecution said the four, armed with locally manufactured pistols and machetes, forcefully broke into the room of the complainant, subjected him and his daughter to some beatings and made away with one laptop, four mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

He told the court that two months later, two of the robbers, Samuel and Alex were arrested and in their caution statements, they admitted the offence and mentioned Baba and Evans as their accomplices.

DSP Acheampong said Samuel and Alex were later charged and arraigned, and after full trial were convicted and sentenced to 23 years each in hard labour.

He said about a month ago, Baba, who was held by the Tema Regional Police Command for a similar offence, also admitted his involvement in that robbery case and also mentioned Evans as one of his accomplices.

The prosecution said on Friday, July 24, Evans was also arrested at Teshie cold store. He admitted the offence in his caution statement.
