Hunter nabbed for shooting woman

A 32-year-old hunter of Esuwatwi near Nsawam has found himself in the grips of the law for, allegedly, shooting a woman in a bush.

Suspect John Kwame Aboagye shot the woman around 1:00 a.m. in a bush after he claimed that he had targeted a dear.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, got injured in her right thigh and is currently receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Narrating the story to the DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Akwesi Kankam Boadu, district commander in charge of the Nsawam police station said the suspect reported himself to the Oboden police after he realized he had shot a human being on November 13, 2012.

According to suspect Aboagye, he went to the bush on that fateful day around 12:00 a.m. to hunt grasscutters and other animals.

Around 1:00 a.m., the suspect said he heard an animal who roared like an antelope, chewing some pineapple in a nearby pineapple farm.

He gauged at the supposed animal and shot at it.

Suspect Aboagye later rushed to his house to inform the family that he had shot an antelope and needed them to help him convey the animal home.

Father and uncle together with the suspect went to the farm around 5:00 a.m. to bring the animal home but when they got to the farm, it was rather a human being.

The victim had a key tied around her waist and was partially naked.

She also had some chewed pineapple lying by her side.

The victim was rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital for medical care but due to the intensity of the injury, she was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Superintendent Kankam Boadu said the victim has not been able to speak to the police after the incident.

The district commander said investigations were ongoing to unearth the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
