The Association of Community Nutrition Students (ASCONS) was founded in the year 2001 with barely over 50 members.
Ever since, the association has served as a platform for addressing nutrition related problems through our annual outreach program, advocacies, awareness creation and behavioral change communication.
In our quest to mitigating the incidence of malnutrition and other health related issues in Ghana, ASCONS has initiated an outreach programme dubbed the NUTRITION WEEK CELEBRATION across the 71 districts and municipalities in the Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo Region.
Statistics available justify these regions as the most impoverish in the country with high incidence of malnutrition and thus greatly influence the attainment of the MDGs hence the outreach programme in these regions.
With financial supports from cooperate bodies and collaborations with Ghana Health Services (GHS), district and municipal assemblies across northern Ghana over the past decade, ASCONS boast of reaching an estimated ONE MILLION people through our outreach programme, durbars and radio talk show on nutrition in northern Ghana.
As an association we strongly believe that to live a life without malnutrition is a fundamental human right. The persistent of malnutrition especially among mothers and children in this world of plenty is immoral. Improved nutrition anywhere in this world is not a charity but a societal, household and individual right. It is the worldâ??s communityâ??s responsibility to find effective ways and means to invest for better livelihood and to avoid future unnecessary social and economic burden.
With collective effort from all ending, malnutrition is both a credible and achievable goal.
