GREAT VISION AFRICA is a faith-based organization dedicated to empowering the working poor to free themselves from poverty. Through our partnerships with local Christian micro finance institutions all over the developing world, we provide small loans, business training, mentor ship and micro enterprise services to help people living in poverty establish their own businesses. By supporting our clients, you enable them to provide for their families with dignity and send their children to school.GREAT VISION AFRICA demonstrates Godâ??s love by enabling the poor to free themselves from poverty. Through the provision of small loans, basic business training, encouragement and access to other financial services, people living in poverty are helped to start or expand their own businesses or micro enterprises. By their own efforts, the poor are able to support their families, emerge from the cycle of poverty and contribute in many positive ways to the long-term development of their communities.
When given the opportunity to become clients, poor entrepreneurs are able to combine a loan and training from the program with their own hard work, their God-given skills and ideas to build businesses that allow them to support their families. Depending on the country, first time loans range in size from $50 to $2,000.
Regardless of the size of the loan, the results are significant. With profits from their businesses, parents are able to send their children to school, to provide better nutrition, health care, shelter and clothing, to become engaged in their communities and to break the cycle of poverty. Lives are changed now and for generations to come.
GREAT VISION AFRICA works with a network of faith-based, locally registered micro enterprise development organizations around the world to deliver these services. These local programs understand the culture of and have a heart for the communities where they work to give the poor the opportunity to free themselves from poverty through profitable business ownership.
These programs are designed to become self-sustaining, meaning that fees and interest earned on the loans are adequate to cover local program operating expenses. Once this point is reached, no further outside funding is needed for operating expenses, allowing all new funding to go toward program development and new loans. With loan repayment rates greater than 95%, loan capital is lent out again and again, multiplying its impact by helping many more families in the future.
GREAT VISION AFRICA helps enable the very poor of the world to lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty. We provide small loans, business training and community development programs through a network of locally-led organizations in twelve countries to equip poor families to improve their lives.
Our Work
After more than two decades of work across the developing world, GREAT VISION AFRICA understands that poor people in every country have skills and initiative that they want to use to lift their families out of poverty. Instead of a handout in the form of aid, many thousands of poor clients have received a hand up through training and small business loans.
Hungry for credit from sources other than local loan sharks, these clients have responded by demonstrating unmistakably the creditworthiness of the world's poor: Loan repayment rates in GREAT VISION AFRICA-funded programs typically exceed 95 percent, surpassing the performance of many commercial institutions. Rather than cultivating dependency, this strategy of micro enterprise creates self-supporting entrepreneurs and, as a consequence, healthier families and stronger local churches. GREAT VISION AFRICA programs do not discriminate on the basis of religious affiliation or impose any religious requirements on prospective or current clients.)
Developing countries also benefit from two unusual aspects of GREAT VISION Africa's approach to relieving poverty. Rather than administering a large number of permanent branch offices around the world, we work with locally registered Christian organizations as partners, transferring required skills and capital. Also, each GREAT VISION AFRICA project is designed to produce an indigenous, independent ministry, one that is expected to stand on its own financially within a few years.
