AFRICA FEST showcases the experiences of people of African descent and demonstrate the effects of the Africa’s direct immigrants on American music, politics, business, arts and culture today. The African Association of Madison, in collaboration with UW Madison African Studies Program, the Urban League, Centro Hispano and several other community organizations will produce AFRICA FEST in Madison at Warner Park on Saturday, the third Saturday in August every year. A week of film, workshops and lectures tracking the rise and experiences of the current most prominent descendants of African immigrants precedes the festival. On the day of the festival, African immigrants and African-American presenters will sing songs, demonstrate crafts, tell stories, cook, illustrate various occupational skills, and address issues of cultural identity, history, and heritage to show the effect of African culture in America. Visitors will join in to discover grassroots African culture and traditions. Publications and archival documentation, and products arising from the Festival will result in educational materials for school children.
